No Seed Money available for 2008-2009 |
Purpose
The University of Hawaiʻi - West Oʻahu "Seed Money" Research Fund supports selected scholarly and creative activities of full-time faculty whose disciplines do not traditionally receive significant extramural funding. Such support is limited to small projects that are relatively self-contained. Applicants are strongly encouraged to seek supplemental funding from other sources. Priority will be given to proposals that are designed to lead to subsequent extramural funding applications.
Eligibility
- Priority will be given to new tenure-track junior faculty.
- Faculty on sabbatical leave or on detached services, but still on the University of Hawaii payroll are eligible to apply. If awarded, funds should be used to augment sabbatical research but are not intended to be provided the primary means of support for sabbatical leave.
- Faculty on leave without pay are not eligible to apply. Persons on leave without pay are considered to be separated from the financial responsibility of the University of Hawaiʻi
Terms of Award
- The maximum amount of a Research award is $1,500.
- Each applicant may submit only one application at a time and only one award will be made in any given fiscal year (7/1 to 6/30)
- Requests for research related travel will be considered; however, support to present a paper at a professional conference or society meeting should be sought from the URC and/or UHWO Faculty Travel Fund.
- Funding may not be requested to pay for overload or summer salaries of principal investigators, for salaries of graduate research assistants, or for the purchase of personal computers for faculty. Salary support is allowable for student help when this does not involve a contractual obligation for payment of employee benefits.
- Appeals for reconsideration of non-funded applications will not be considered. However, previously unsuccessful applicants are encouraged to try again in the next round of competition if they have strengthened their applications.
- Applications which may be eligible for system funding from such
sources as the University Research Council (www.hawaii.edu/urc)
should demonstrate that such grants have been sought first./
