Travel Fund Policy, 2009-2010

  1. The Maximum Allocation
    a. the total Awards from the UHWO Chancellor in AY 2009-2010 shall not exceed $7000 (criteria below).
    The University's Research and Training Revolving Fund criteria may be obtained at on the website of the VP for Research, in Executive Policy E5.216;
    b. the maximum award per faculty applicant for the Academic Year shall not exceed $1500.

  2. It is the responsibility of each Faculty applicant to present a full and complete application to the Academic Affairs Committee Chair or designee on or before the deadline.
    a. Applications must include disclosure of any other funding applied for or received for the professional or academic event for which the award is being sought.
    b. Revisions and explanations or clarifications submitted after the deadline will not be considered, though Faculty may withdraw applications at any time without prejudice.
    c. Applications not awarded funding in the Fall round may be resubmitted for consideration in the Spring round.
  3. Applications will be judged competitively on the following criteria.
    • Centrality of the meeting/event to the applicant's field, and/or
    • Perceived benefit to UH- West O'ahu
    • Support for Junior Faculty tenure requirements
    • Prior history of Travel Fund awards (consideration given faculty who have not recently received awards)

  4. Eligible expenses for which the award is being sought must be fully documented and may include airfare, conference fees, per diem and other reasonable travel expenses. NOTE: Article VIII of the new UHPA Contract provides for an Out-of-State travel allowance consisting of either the federal per diem rate or a mutually agreed upon flat dollar amount not to exceed the federal per diem rate.

  5. The academic or professional event/activity for which the award is being sought must occur or have occurred within the period between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010.

    • Fall award deadline is the last Friday in November 30, 2009.
    • Spring award deadline is February 26, 2010

  6. The Academic Affairs & Resources Committee shall meet to review applications and forward their recommendations to the Vice Chancellor for approval within ten days of their decision-making.

  7. Any Faculty member on the Committee whose application is being reviewed shall be excused from the deliberations for that round.
